About the campaign

When a married man dies, his widow is left to fend for herself and the children. This is a challenge many Nigerian communities have. Often there is no "retirement" plan or other means of subsistence than for the widow to now go out fend for herself. She may have children who can step in and take care of business. Frequently that is not the case as the children themselves (especially the young ones) must now fend for themselves as well.

Many times these widows pick up the pieces by going out on their own, or perhaps they are enterprising or may have had a previous business when their husband was living. In other cases, they are able to take over their husband's business, or farmland he cultivated.

Enuani Association believes such enterprising women working hard to pick up the pieces can become/remain positive contributors to their families' future and should be supported where possible. This is why we have launched the "Widows' Enterprise Micro-loan Project".

The program provides small repayable loans to such ladies to support them in their efforts. They are responsible for repaying the loan from proceeds they earn from their business using the loans they receive. As these loans are paid back, it is loaned out to others. All recipients undergo rigorous vetting backed by loan guarantors prior to receiving a loan.

For the initial launch of the program (2018-2019 year) we have committed to 12 windows, 4 each from Idumuje-Ugboko, Issele-Uku, Ugbody, and Okpanam. Loans for the 2018/2019 period have been disbursed.
